The altercation was filmed by Brandi Newman in Oklahoma City. The Daily Mail has identified the car in the video as a 2013 Fiat.
According to The Blaze, the elderly woman is known for begging in Oklahoma City on a daily basis.
Newman told KFOR 4 she had herself been duped by the beggar, and was taking a picture of the car as proof when the man, Daniel Ayala, approached her.
Of course, it’s not right to bash somebody’s windshield in. I didn’t think he was going to do that for a minute. He’s just trying to prove a point that you don’t come here again, don’t do this again, quit scamming people.
Ayala defended his threats, telling the station: “I gave that lady over $15 in five days. $15 could make me enough to come to work for gas.”
According to KFOR 4, Newman has been contacted by the grandchildren of the woman, who is believed to be 78. They apparently told her their grandmother “isn’t doing anything illegal” and that they are “appalled” by the video.
News9 has now met the lady in the video – it didn’t go well, as you can see.
The station pointed out that only about 20% of beggars are actually homeless, quoting Dan Straughan, executive director of the Homeless Alliance, as saying: “By far the majority of panhandlers we see are panhandling for cash, typically to support unhealthy behaviors, often alcoholism and other addictions.”
