While most people envision their dream home, they most likely think of a huge, sprawling dream house that cost millions of dollars. When Steve Areen thought about building his dream home, all he needed was $9,000 and a place to build it. He did exactly that and, within a few weeks, he had a dream home in the middle of Thailand that anyone would envy.
In only 6 weeks, Steve was able to build his dream home.
With the help of a Thai friend, his son-in-law’s masonry skills and a lot of work and sweat, the team progressed rapidly.
Steve was offered a place on his friend Hajjar Gibran’s mango grove to build his home.
The basic materials cost around $6,000.
In Thailand, building materials are much more inexpensive, but it’s still mind boggling to realize just how little this cost to make.
The extra specialties and furnishings for the home was another $3,000.
Steven built and furnished his dream home for $9,000.
It took hard work and dedication.
But don’t you agree it paid off?
Cinder blocks and clay bricks were used for the exterior, as were some natural materials.
Steve said that if given the chace to do it again, he’d use compressed earth blocks instead.
Who wouldn’t want this dreamy little home?
Leisurely spending your afternoons swinging on your rooftop hammock.
Or sitting around your backyard pond.
The home has plenty of windows and natural light, almost melting into it’s natural surroundings.
One cool feature is the steps up to the roof, you can climb around the whole house if you like.
All of the accents throughout the house are natural
The beautiful stone mosaic you see here is Steve’s shower.
The bathroom sink is constructed natural bamboo and other materials.
You would never imagine something so beautiful and cozy could be built so cheap.
I want to be there now
