A lot has changed in our country since 1969. However, the following video shows us that as much as things change, they also stay the same.
If you grew up in the United States, probably one of the first things you ever learned in school was the Pledge of Allegiance. Written by Francis Bellamy in 1892 and adopted by U.S. Congress in 1945, the words “under God” were added less than 10 years later under President Eisenhower.
Around that time comedian Red Skelton had one of the most popular shows on television. Americans loved to tune in to his show, and if you’re from that era, chances are YOU enjoyed watching him with your family. The following clip is from The Red Skelton Hour back in 1969.
With all the recent debates about taking “under God” out of the Pledge of Allegiance, you can’t deny that what he says couldn’t be more true to this day.
