The doctors who helped deliver baby Silas were in for an unexpected surprise when the baby emerged. Silas was born 26 weeks premature via c-section, and he entered into the world still inside the amniotic sac. Doctors were astonished to say the least, as this is a rather rare occurrence. Silas’ Mother was unaware of the miracle that just occurred, until her mother showed her pictures of Silas still inside of the amniotic sac.
This type of birth is what is known as an “en-caul” birth, which differs from caul births that occur when the baby is delivered with just their head surrounded by some of the amniotic sac. Being born with a caul is rare, occurring in fewer than 1 in 80,000 births.
