What could be more devastating for a senior dog than to watch her owner walk away and leave her behind? Dessie may not have understood what was happening at that particular moment, but certainly would have felt the loneliness and desperation soon after, as this 14-year-old tan and white collie was placed in a lonely kennel on Sunday afternoon.
And such is the story for Dessie at the Miami Dade County Animal Services. At her age, she will be one of the first to be euthanized if not rescued, fostered or picked up by an approved organization immediately. Most shelters have no designated waiting periods for surrendered pets.
As of Monday morning, Dessie was reported to be in average health considering her age. Her friendly demeanor has her available to an average home. Whether Dessie has two months, two years or more to live, doesn’t she deserve to be treated with respect and dignity?
