When You Realize What You’re Looking At, You’ll Be Amazed.

This artistic restoration was created by artist Phillip K Smith III, in the deserts of Joshua Tree, California. By replacing the weathered siding of the structure with mirrors, he transforms the dilapidated and crumbling structure into a worderful and unique optical illusion. The results are simply amazing, and you have to look closely to really notice how special it truly is.

… and the result breathtakingly reflects the desert surroundings.

The illusion almost makes the cabin seem invisible in places, playing tricks with light and the surroundings.

Smith says “the project is about tapping into the quiet and the pace of change of the desert. When you slow down and align yourself with the desert, the project begins to unfold before you.”

What I love most about this optical illusion is that the longer you stare at it, the more you seem to notice. The balance between what is reflected, and what appears to be seen through the cabin plays with your brain. Too cool!
