Sammi, a Springer Spaniel, underwent surgery at the age of 8 to remove a bone growing near his spinal column. Sadly, Sammi’s vet was unable to remove the excess bone, and following surgery, his health declined. Sammi’s family was heart broken.
Following the surgery, Sammi because quadriplegic and needed intense rehabilitation. His family was hoping for a miracle, and brought him to California Animal Rehabilitation (CARE) in Santa Monica.
His prognosis was bleak, and doctors feared Sammi would live out the remainder of his days paralyzed.
But after three grueling months of rehabilitation — which included assisted standing in an underwater treadmill and sensory rehabilitation over using therapy ball — Sammi defied all odds and slowly learned to walk again.
In the video below, watch the touching moment Sammi is reunited with his mom, who’s completely shocked to see him walk again for the first time, her reaction is just priceless!
A BIG thanks to the medical and rehabilitation staff who worked tirelessly to help Sammi.
