51 years ago on this day, “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” by The Righteous Brothers was #1 on the billboard charts.
Most people don’t know that the song was written by Barry Mann, Phil Spector, and Cynthia Weil and produced by Phil Spector. It was also the number five song of the year, and made another return to the Billboard Charts in 1986 when it was featured in the film Top Gun starring Tom Cruise. The song has also been covered by Dionne Warwick, Cilla Black, and Hall & Oates.
The song still stands the test of time. Recording artists Tom Jones and Jessie J even sung it at this year’s Grammy Awards!
The video below features The Righteous Brothers, Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, singing in 1965. The audio shows off their clear vocals, but the video is a little blurry, so I’ve also included their performance of the song at their 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame right below.
If this song brings back good memories, be sure to SHARE it with your friends on Facebook!
