In the following video, a wild stallion named Champ and his family are grazing along the bank of the Salt River in Arizona’s Tonto National Forest. Minutes later, another herd of wild horses arrive across the river.
Champ and his family become interested in their new neighbors across the way. Intrigued, a few begin to trek across the river.
Suddenly, the strong current forces a filly to be swept downstream. At one point, she even goes under.
Champ tries to grab the filly by the side of the neck, but is unsuccessful. The filly breaks from the group, struggling in the water.
Champ breaks from the group to go and try to help her. He grabs her by the neck and gently helps her back to the group. He continues to help until he knows she’s finally safe.
Shaken, the filly heads to her mother. With everything under control, Champ proceeds to cross the river and greets the stallions across the bank like they’re old friends.
Upon his return, Champ greets his family. The video says, “Like a scripted ending, to a fairytale story, three birds land on Champ and his mare.”
