There’s something about the holidays that inspires us to reflect on what we’re thankful for. From our families and loved ones to the material possessions we’re lucky enough to call our own, there’s always a reason to be thankful. One thing all Americans can feel fortunate for is our brave men and women in the Armed Forces.
These dedicated individuals put their lives on the line to protect our freedom – and in this instance, they put their free time to the side to help onlookers ring in the holiday season.
No one walking the National Air and Space Museum’s Milestones of Flight gallery was expecting such a beautiful Christmas performance with so many Air Force musicians…
According to the official Air Force Band website, the group is comprised of a host of talented musicians. The site explains:
“[The] United States Air Force bands consist of one premier band, eleven active duty bands and five Air National Guard bands that feature our nation’s finest professional musicians. Our bands honor, inspire and connect reaching over six million listeners at over five thousand live and televised performances each year. Each band operates within their own geographic area of responsibility representing America’s Airmen to a global audience.”
With so much attention to detail paid to the assembly of the band, it makes sense the group’s members would be wildly talented as well as composed.
Their skills were put on display during this surprise Christmas performance. As the angelic vocals burst out over the loudspeakers, a crowd began to form comprised of museum patrons. Some stopped in their tracks, others followed the noise into the gallery – they knew something incredible was going to happen.
Just as the group of onlookers swelled, the true size of the musical group came into view.
An enormous 120-member U.S. Air Force band began to play a magnificently unique rendition of “Joy to the World.” The museum crowd sat back and watched, clearly in awe of their performance and the fact they were able to sneak up on everyone.
With instruments and microphones in-hand, the talented Air Force musicians performed a version of the classic Christmas tune that brings visions of Jesus, God, family and love into the mind!
These men and women are brave, skilled and inspiring servicemen – and the music they make together in this heartwarming Christmas show takes things to another level. It’s hard to imagine that they could find time to practice the song like they obviously have over the past few months. We’re so lucky they’ve blessed us with it!
Take a peek at their lovely Christmas performance of “Joy to the World” below. We have goosebumps!
