Photographer and artist Michael Paul Smith has spent thousands of hours photographing a special little town that mean so much to him. This cozy little town is a place Americans can only dream of living.
The town he photographs is charming and quite beautiful.
Each picture takes us back to a simpler time and place in the United States.
There’s doesn’t seem to be much going on in these pictures, but it’s quite obvious that this town is nothing but charming.
But, believe it or not, it’s also not real.
Michael builds custom miniature model cars and sets, perfectly crafting each and every detail.
Then, the 60 year-old photographer creates the most stunning photos of his creations.
If you didn’t know any better, you might mistakenly think these are vintage pictures of a small town from years ago…
And NOT the super small models Michael built.
Michael started building these models as a hobby. He also wanted to practice his skills of photography.
He never dreamed it would be a “miniature reconstruction” of the town he grew up in.
To Michael, this is what quintessential USA looked like when he was a child.
It is absolutely stunning.
If “Elgin Park” was actually a real town, I would love to be one of it’s residents.
He creates these scenes by using Danbury Mint and Franklin Mint die cast vehicles positioned in front of his models on card tables.
He then uses the surrounding background scenery for the photos.
The setup has to be JUST right…
When he’s done, the resulting photos are absolutely convincing.
Even when you know don’t know what’s really going on behind the scenes.
It’s a perfect illusion.
Michael is able to make an incredibly convincing illusion.
