A Homeless Former Marine Sits Down At A Piano. When He Starts Playing, I’m Covered In Goosebumps!

One homeless man in Sarasota, FL has become an overnight internet sensation after a video caught him performing a beautiful talent.

A video of Donald Gould, 51, playing the piano was posted on Facebook on June 29 along with the caption, “Just took my breath away. Wow.” It quickly went viral, receiving millions of views.

Gould plays every day on one of the seven pianos placed throughout the city by the Sarasota Keys project, a nonprofit organization who’s goal is to bring art and music to the vibrant downtown Sarasota district.

“It is my passion. I just like to make people happy out there when I’m playing,” Gould told a local news station. “I put my hat out there and sit it on top of the keyboard in hopes of making tips because I’m homeless.”

Speaking about his overnight fame, Gould said, “It’s overwhelming to me. I can’t believe it. I‘m still fighting off tears.”

Gould, a former Marine and music teacher, has had his share of struggles in life. His wife died in 1998 and his son was taken away by the state because of his drug addiction.

“Every day it’s painful,” he said of losing his son. “There’s not a day that’s gone by since they took him from me that I haven’t thought about him. He turned 18 last August 24. I wish he would come and find me.”
